The
Public Works Commission of the City of Fayetteville, NC, voted Feb. 27
to reduce its existing Facility Investment Fees (FIF), a move that would
offer industrial customers a $23,000 savings when connecting to the PWC
system. The
decision came after a review of the fees that are charged to new users
of the system to recover the cost of having treatment capacity available
at PWC facilities. In
December 2001, the PWC board approved an economic incentive plan that
encourages development in the downtown area and PWC service area by waiving
FIF fees. The
costs for customers to connect are based on meter sizes and commercial
and industrial customers using 1 ½ meters and higher will
see an overall decrease in FIF fees from the current rates. The combined
fees for a 5/8 meter, a typical residential meter, will stay the
same. The individual FIF for water was reduced from $630 to $460 while
the sewer charge increased from $500 to $670.
