Power crews from the Fayetteville Public Works Commission are assisting other municipally-owned utilities in North Carolina with power restoration from this weeks winter storm. Five crews left Fayetteville Friday afternoon to assist the towns of Gastonia and Lexington with power restoration. An estimated 20,000 people served by municipal electric companies in the western part of the state are without electricity. The assistance is coordinated through the Emergency Assistance Program of North Carolina Electricities, which represents municipally-owned utilities.
