The
employees of the Public Works Commission, City of Fayetteville and Carolina
Power & Light will join forces on January 11, 2003, in the annual
Grinding of the Greens Christmas Tree Recycling program.
Designed to protect and enhance our environment, this program encourages
area residents to recycle their live Christmas trees. For the ninth year
in a row, employees from PWC, the City and CP&L have volunteered to
collect trees and grind them up to be used for mulch at the Cape Fear
Botanical Garden. The mulch will be used on woodland paths and flowerbeds
at the Garden.
To participate, area residents who live in the city can put their trees
out for curbside collection by January 7. All lights, stands and trimmings
should be removed from your tree. The City will have special pick-up of
the Christmas trees placed at curbside by January 7.
No trees will be picked up prior to that date.
If you live outside the City, you may drop your tree at the Botanical
Garden any day before January 11 or join the activities at the Botanical
Gardens on the morning of January 11. If dropping a tree off on the 11th,
it should arrive prior to 9 am.
There are many environmental benefits to this program. It helps keep recyclable
material out of our landfills and it provides a source for much needed
mulch for the Botanical Gardens, a beautiful asset to our community.
