Tree Pickup/Dropoff Information
  • City of Fayetteville residents must have their trees out for curbside pickup by Jan. 13

  • Tree dropoff at Botanical Gardens (Firetower area) by 8 am Jan. 17

The employees of the Public Works Commission, City of Fayetteville and Progress Energy will join forces on January 17, 2004, in the annual “Grinding of the Greens” Christmas Tree Recycling program.

Designed to protect and enhance our environment, this program encourages area residents to recycle their live Christmas trees. For the 10th year in a row, employees from PWC, the City and Progress Energy have volunteered to collect trees and grind them up to be used for mulch at the Cape Fear Botanical Garden. The mulch will be used on woodland paths and flowerbeds at the Garden.

To participate, area residents who live in the city can put their trees out for curbside collection by January 13. All lights, stands and trimmings should be removed from your tree. The City will have special pick-up of the Christmas trees placed at curbside by January 13. No trees will be picked up prior to that date.

If you live outside the City, you may drop your tree at the Botanical Garden any day before January 17 or join the activities at the Botanical Gardens on the morning of January 11. If dropping a tree off on the 17th, it should be there by 8 am as the grinding will get underway early.

There are many environmental benefits to this program. It helps keep recyclable material out of our landfills and it provides a source for much needed mulch for the Botanical Gardens, a beautiful asset to our community.
