New
payment options approved Wednesday by the Public Works Commission will
give PWC customers additional payment locations and 24-hour a day access
to payment options.
The Board voted to revise customer payment options to accept check and
credit card payments through SpeedPay and partner with Western Union to
provide multiple payment locations throughout Fayetteville.
PWC currently accepts check and credit card payments by phone; however,
the service is only available weekdays during normal business hours. Through
SpeedPay, customers will be able to pay with check and credit card by
phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In addition, customers will be able
to pay via the internet using checks, an option not previously available.
In an effort to provide additional payment locations, PWC will contract
with area Western Union payment centers to accept cash payments. While
these select locations are to be determined at a later date, PWC anticipates
having numerous locations across its Cumberland County service area. Western
Union locations will also offer customers extended hours and additional
days of availability. Existing automated PWC pay stations, currently at
three locations, will be discontinued after implementation of the Western
Union option.
Customer convenience fees would be applied to the new options. Payments
made by phone or internet will include a $3.95 charge per transaction
up to $500, while Western Union payments will include a $1.00 transaction
fee. Approximately nine percent of customers currently pay by internet
or phone. Four percent utilize pay stations.
PWC customers can look for the new payment options to be available by
early Spring 2004.
