An extra measure of care and safety for the community has now been doubled as the City of Fayetteville employees join SafeWatch, a program Public Works Commission employees have participated in since 1994.

Through SafeWatch, employees stay alert for emergencies while they are working in the community and can be a resource citizens can turn to in an emergency.
PWC employees began the SafeWatch program 10 years ago and now city employees will make an even greater impact to the efforts.

"As our community grows, we need to feel safe and secure. Through the SafeWatch program, City and PWC employees are extra eyes and ears to what is happening in our neighborhoods, especially during the daytime when we are at work and school," said City Manager Roger Stancil.

More than 600 employees of the two organizations travel roughly four million miles annually or 12,000 miles daily throughout our community.

Because employees are equipped with mobile communications and many are trained in First Aid and CPR, they have the ability to report emergencies or provide assistance in addition to the quality city and utility services they already provide.

"Since SafeWatch began, our employees have reported emergencies and provided assistance hundreds of times, " said Steve Blanchard, PWC General Manager. "They are very visible in the community as they work and travel and their assistance has been a comfort to many citizens in emergency situations."

To remind the community that employees are available to help out in an emergency, city vehicles and hard hats will now display the SafeWatch logo, just as the PWC does.
