The Public Works Commission Board has set its priorities for the upcoming year with its relationship with the City of Fayetteville, the environment, annexation issues, economic development and PWC management among its top action items.

Setting the priorities were part of the Board’s strategic planning session that concluded Friday.

Two of the top-10 priorities focused on better communications with the City Council and a better understanding of the relationship of both organizations. Annexation Phase 5, economic development policies and the environmental cleanup efforts around the Texfi/PO Hoffer Water Treatment Facility also received the top nod.

In addition, the Board made the development of a performance evaluation system for the PWC General Manager and management succession planning a priority. It also identified the reviewing of electric fuel adjustment and financial reserve level policies as goals.
Before setting its priorities, the Board and PWC staff also reviewed its top achievements over the past year.

Helping retain business/jobs through its participation and coordination of sewer service installation for DAK-DTF industries was a top success. Other actions with direct benefits for PWC customers included the maintaining of stable electric rates through PWC’s new power supply contract and debt restructuring and refinancing.

Other accomplishments included:

  • Joint City service efforts in purchasing and regular reports to the City Council
  • Major water projects including capacity expansion at PWC’s Rockfish Creek Wastewater Treatment Facility and the support for annexation through its Phase 5 sewer strategy
  • Implementation of a work management system for PWC operations
  • Conversion of the PWC retirement system to the Local Governmental Employees Retirement system.
