PWC
joins more than 2,000 public power systems across the nation in recognizing
the benefits of public power during Public Power Week, Oct. 3-9. Fayetteville's
electric utility serves more than 70,000 customers, is the largest municipally
owned electric utility in the state, and is the 37th largest public power
provider in the United States.
More than 40 million people or about 15% of electric customers in the
United States are served by municipally owned utilities. Some of the nation's
largest cities- Los Angeles, San Antonio, Seattle, and Orlando- operate
publicly owned electric utilities. In North Carolina, more than 70 towns
provide public power.
During Public Power Week, customers are invited to visit the PWC customer
service location at 201 Hay Street for information and give-a-ways on
energy conservation and electrical safety as well as enter in a drawing
for a credit on their electric bill. On Friday, Oct. 8, refreshments will
be served as part of Customer Appreciation Day.
Public Power Week will conclude on Oct. 9 with the 6th annual It's Electric
Saturday. The event will be held in front of Home Depot on Skibo Road
from 9 am to 1 pm and features free bucket truck rides, games & give-a-ways,
information on energy conservation and a food & supply drive to aid
victims of recent hurricanes.
