The
Fayetteville Public Works Commission was one of 23 award recipients of
the the Spirit of North Carolina Awards for Campaign Excellence awarded
Feb 10 in during the United Way of NC's Annual Meeting in Pinehurst. The
awards are sponsored annually by the United Way of North Carolina to provide
statewide recognition for outstanding commitment and support to communities
through local United Way involvement.
The Spirit Awards are designed to recognize companies and their employees

judged more than 75 outstanding submissions from top companies, organizations,
governmental entities, healthcare and educational institutions, as well
as businesses - large and small.
Organizations and companies were judged on a variety of criteria (Standards
of Excellence) including leadership giving, volunteerism, employee participation
and giving levels, year-round education, corporate support, incentive
programs, and campaign rallies just to name a few.
PWC received its second consecutive Spirit of NC award. In 2004, PWC employees
pledged a record $55,570, a 9% increase over last year's total. PWC's
per capita giving increased from $97.62 to $104.85 while the average gift
increased from $116 to $125.72. Over 83% of PWC's 500+ employees contributed
to the United Way and the number of PWC employees giving at the Marquis
level increased to five.
In addition to contributions made during the campaign, eight PWC employees
serve in volunteer roles on the United Way Board, volunteer committees
and as Loaned Executives throughout the year. In September, more than
