June 21, 2005 Fayetteville PWC received the American Public Power Association's (APPA) Community Service Award at the association's National Conference in Anaheim, CA. This award recognizes "good neighbor" activities that demonstrate the commitment of the utility and its employees to the community. Fayetteville PWC was recognized for continued support and creation of numerous community programs, including Bright Futures, a collaborative effort with a local school district to ensure student SAT and ACT scores meet or exceed national averages. Fayetteville PWC also established Love Lights, a program that during select months, pays the utility bills for local Salvation Army shelters, allowing the shelters to "keep the lights on" and allocate resources to other crucial initiatives. Utility
employees also participate in SafeWatch. By utility workers keeping
their eyes and ears open while on the job in area neighborhoods, Fayetteville
PWC helps to promote a safe and secure community. Employee involvement
in Fayetteville PWC's charitable initiatives is high year in and year
out. |
