The employees of the Fayetteville Public Works
Commission, City of Fayetteville and Progress Energy will join
forces on January 14, 2006, in the annual "Grinding of
the Greens" Christmas Tree Recycling program.
Designed to protect and enhance our environment, this program
encourages area residents to recycle their live Christmas trees.
For the 12th year in a row, employees from PWC, the City and
CP&L have volunteered to collect trees and grind them up
to be used for mulch at the Cape Fear Botanical Garden. The
mulch will be used on woodland paths and flowerbeds at the Garden.
To participate, area residents who live in the city can put
their trees out for curbside collection by January 10. The City
will make special pickups Jan. 10-13. No trees will be picked
up prior to that date. All lights, stands and trimmings should
be removed from your tree.
If you live outside the City, you may drop your tree at the
Botanical Garden any day before January 14 or observe the activities
at the Botanical Gardens on the morning of January 14. If dropping
a tree off on the 14th, it should be there by 8 am as the grinding
will get underway early.
There are many environmental benefits to this program, including
keeping recyclable material out of our landfills and providing
a source for much needed mulch for the Botanical Gardens, a
beautiful asset to our community.
