February 27, 2008
PWC General Manager Steve Blanchard has lifted the restriction of the Stage 2 water shortage ordinance that impacts pool companies and pool owners. Effective February 26, 2008, filling new or existing pools is now allowed. The update to the restrictions that PWC customers have followed since October was made after review of the current conditions and because throughout the drought, all efforts have been on not impacting area businesses. All other restrictions remain in affect until further notice.
- Since PWC moved to Stage II restrictions in October, our customer daily average is 20.7 Million Gallons a Day (MGD) and we have not exceeded 24 MGD.
- PWC water use is submitted to the state weekly as required by the Govenor
- The amount of water PWC pulls from the Cape Fear River and treats daily is equal to the amount of water treated and returned to the river so currently Fayetteville's water use is not having a negative impact on the Cape Fear River and users down stream of Fayetteville
- On February 21, PWC hosted a water conservation program for industrial and large commercial customers and staff is working with commercial car washes for more efficient water operations.
Current restrictions for PWC Water Customers:
- Use of automatic irrigation systems and sprinklers allowed for even addresses: Wednesday and Saturday. Odd addresses: Thursday and Sunday
- Hand watering is allowed on any day
Other:
- Washing of vehicles except at commercial car washes
- Non-commercial washing down of outside areas such as streets, driveways and building exteriors
- Industrial and commercial
businesses will be asked to reduce their water consumption with a target
goal of least 20%.
