Fayetteville Public Works Commission customers can now use automatic irrigation and sprinkler systems three days a week as water conservation measures have dropped back to Stage 1 of the Fayetteville Water Shortage Ordinance.
As part of Stage 1, customers are required to follow the odd/even watering schedule that allows the use of automatic irrigation and unattended sprinkler systems three days a week. Even street address may use sprinkler systems on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. Customers at odd addresses may water on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.
Hand watering is allowed on any day. Customers are encouraged to always use a spray nozzle when hand watering and with other outdoor watering activities.
PWC cautions customers that the area remains in a drought and projections call for below normal rainfall as we move into the summer. Despite recent rainfall and the lifting of some water restrictions, water supply and drought conditions will continue to be monitored closely and tighter restrictions could be implemented if conditions worsen in the summer. Customers should water only when necessary and reduce outdoor water use as much as possible by properly adjusting irrigation for the most efficient use.
Implementing water wise landscaping practices is encouraged and customers should also look at long-term solutions to reducing their water use such as installing water efficient appliances and repairing or retrofitting plumbing that reduces water use.
Fayetteville PWC serves over 200,000 people in Fayetteville and Cumberland County, including Hope Mills, Spring Lake and Stedman. Residents can pick up information on water conservation at PWC or on-line at faypwc.com.
