PWC Employees accepted the Spirit of NC Award on behalf of their co-workers.

For the fourth straight year, PWC has received state recognition for its support of the United Way as the utility was selected as a winner of the Spirit of North Carolina Award from the United Way of North Carolina. PWC was one of 28 state-wide award winners at the United Way of NC's Annual Meeting held in February. The awards are sponsored annually to provide statewide recognition for outstanding commitment and support to communities through local United Way involvement.

The Spirit Awards are designed to recognize companies and their employees that demonstrate campaign excellence and community commitment. The Committee judged more than 75 outstanding submissions from top companies, organizations, governmental entities, healthcare and educational institutions, as well as businesses - large and small.

Organizations and companies were judged on a variety of criteria (Standards of Excellence) including leadership giving, volunteerism, employee participation and giving levels, year-round education, corporate support, incentive programs, and campaign rallies just to name a few.

In 2006, PWC employees pledged a record $72,659 to the United Way, a 17.3% increase over last year's total. Over 95% of PWC's 550 employees contributed to the United Way and the number of PWC employees giving at the $1000+ level increased to 15.

In addition to contributions made during the campaign, eight PWC employees serve in volunteer roles on the United Way Board, volunteer committees and as Loaned Executives throughout the year. Annually, more than 40 PWC employees participated in the United Way's Day of Caring.

PWC has also been recognized by the United Way of Cumberland County, as its 2006 Spirit of Community recipient. The award is presented to a company exhibiting outstanding year-round support of the community through local non-profit agencies by: corporate sponsorship, supporting special community events, encouraging volunteerism among employees, and exhibiting year-round visible presence in community building activities.
