Deadline to Send Comments on InterBasin Water Transfer-Nov. 20
The public is asked to provide comments on Fuquay-Varina’s Proposed Inter basin transfer (IBT) from the Cape Fear River basin to the Neuse River basin.
This public comment period is a preliminary step in Fuquay-Varina’s IBT request. As a community dependent on the Cape Fear River for our water and impacted by inter basin transfers, it is important that Fayetteville advocates to protect our water supply and have our concerns heard. Because of advocacy, previous IBT certificates ultimately included requirements for water to be returned to the Cape Fear River. Fayetteville and PWC’s expectation is that (1) a thorough process be completed that includes full consideration of the impact on all communities downstream/dependent on the Cape Fear River and (2) before any IBT certificate is issued, it has been demonstrated that no alternate option that would eliminate the need for an IBT is available.
Fuquay-Varina is requesting an average day transfer of approx. 4 million gallons per day (mgd) and a maximum day transfer of 8 mgd from the Cape River basin to the Neuse River basin. The transfer amount is based on 2055 water demand projects in the Town’s service area. The meeting will include an overview presentation of the IBT request followed by public questions and comment. Representatives from the Town of Fuquay-Varina, the NC Division of Water Resources will be present to provide background on the IBT program.
Mailed and emailed comments will be given equal consider. Mailed comments should be addressed to Hazen and Sawyer, Attn: Ms Mary Sadler, PE, 4011 WestChase Blvd, Suite 500, Raleigh, NC 27607. Comments may be submitted electronically to email@example.com The public comment period for the phase of the project closes on November 20, 2020.
