APPA Scattergood Award

PWC has twice received the American Public Power Association’s E.F. Scattergood System Achievement Award.  This award recognizes a community-owned utility that has enhanced the prestige of the APPA and of public power through outstanding service to customers.

PWC’s achievements noted in the award include a system-wide conversion to advanced meters and LED streetlights, beginning the installation of North Carolina’s first public power solar farm, and the installation of four free electric vehicle charging stations.  Time-of-Use electric rates, a new customer web portal providing customers direct access to utility usage data, advanced customer payment options, and incentive programs were PWC customer-focused initiatives that were also recognized by the APPA award.

PWC community support and involvement also contributed to PWC’s recognition.  Among that support were PWC’s partnering with Fayetteville Technical Community College to establish a local Lineworker Program and its being recognized 17 times with the United Way of North Carolina’s Spirit Award.

While the Scattergood Award is presented by the APPA, a wide variety of criteria across the entire utility were judged to win this prestigious national award. All employees contributed to PWC winning the Scattergood Award.  PWC is among a small number of APPA members to ever receive this award, which places it among the top municipal systems in the country.
