PWC’s P.O. Hoffer and Glenville Lake Water Treatment Facilities have been recognized by the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) with 2022 Area Wide Optimization Program (AWOP) awards.

Clean water is fundamental to everyone’s health, and for safeguarding against illness. Meeting the AWOP requirements is another way PWC demonstrates its commitment to providing safe, high quality drinking water.

Established by the EPA and NCDEQ, AWOP aims to enhance drinking water by ensuring its cleanliness and safety. This program was initiated in response to the need for better handling of water turbidity (cloudiness) and other quality issues. The program focuses on enhancing existing treatment and operations and establishes stringent goals for water clarity. These goals are significantly more stringent than we are required to meet by our permit.
