Aquanta Electric Water Heater Control Device Program

The Peak Savings Electric Water Heater Program helps you conserve electricity – and save money – during times of high energy demand. Plus, participants receive a FREE Aquanta smart water heater device when they sign up!
How Does It Work?
During Time-of-Use hours, the Aquanta smart water heater device will turn off the electricity to participants’ electric water heaters using an algorithm. The water heater will not produce any additional hot water during Time-of-Use hours. However, water in the tank should remain warm and available for use.
Time-of-Use hours are every day, including weekends, from 6 a.m. – 9 a.m. during the winter (November – March) and from 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. in the summer months (April – October).
By using the Aquanta Water Heater Control Device, you are taking a smart and easy step to:
- Ease the burden on our existing electricity delivery system and reduce the need for additional power plants

Aquanta Device Program Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Aquanta Device Program?
The Aquanta Device Program is a voluntary program designed to shift energy consumption during periods of high demand for electricity. By conserving energy during peak hours, when the cost to purchase and generate electricity is higher, you help keep prices affordable for our community.
PWC will provide you with a $150 bill credit when you purchase and install an Aquanta device on your electric water heater. From the Aquanta App or Web Portal, you must schedule your hot water heater off during the PWC Time-of-Use (TOU) peak hours. When you schedule your electric water heater off during the peak hours, it doesn’t shut down the heating capability but maintains your water heat at a lower temperature for that period. Once the savings event has ended, your system will resume normal operation.
What is an Aquanta device?
The Aquanta device is a retrofittable, smart Wi-Fi enabled water heater controller. This smart device allows you to control the thermostat and heat cycling of your water heater, allowing you to avoid heating during PWC’s TOU on-peak hours while still assuring hot water availability.
How do I know if Aquanta is compatible with my electric water heater?
Aquanta is designed to work with most residential and small commercial storage-style electric water heaters. It is not compatible with heat pump water heaters, tankless or instantaneous water heaters, boiler-fed water heaters, or “combo” systems. The PWC Program does not include natural gas water heaters.
How does Aquanta control my electric water heater?
The control box is a junction box to an electric tank’s power source. It turns the power on and off to the tank per the control algorithm or your commands. This can also “virtually” control the temperature in the tank.
How do I access my Aquanta user dashboard?
Download the free Aquanta app by searching for “Aquanta” on the Google Play or Apple App Store. There are no charges for access associated with the Aquanta app.
What will I be able to do and see from the user dashboard in the mobile app?
App users can:
- See how much hot water is available
- Set manual water heater on/off schedules
- Adjust the auto-efficiency settings
- Compare hot water usage and energy data from week to week and month to month
- Set “Away” periods
- Adjust alert settings.
What are Peak Time-of-Use (TOU) hours?
During certain hours of the day the demand for electricity is high and the wholesale price of electricity during these peak times is higher. The time-of-use (TOU) rate offers customers a discounted cost per kilowatt hour during the off-peak hours. Customers can reduce their electric utility bill by simply shifting some of their electricity usage for activities like washing and drying clothes to the off-peak hours.
