Commissioner Donald L. Porter

Retired Col. Donald L. Porter was appointed to the PWC Board in December 2021. He will serve as Treasurer during 2024-25. He served as Chair during the 2023-24 fiscal year. 

Porter had a 30-year distinguished military career that included a series of important assignments in the maintenance and logistics fields.  Porter served as Chief of Staff (Forward) of the Joint Logistics Support Command during Operation Uphold Democracy in Haiti and prior to retiring in 1999, he served at Fort Liberty as Assistant Chief of Staff, G4, and then commanded the XVIII Airborne Corps Material Management Center.

Following his military service, Porter served more than 20 years as Executive Director of the Raeford/Hoke County Economic Development Commission.  In addition, he has been active in the Fayetteville/Cumberland County community, serving as Chairman of the Fayetteville State University Board of Trustees (2013-2015),  the Cape Fear Valley Health Board of Trustees and the BB&T Advisory Board. He also served on the Board of the Cumberland Community Foundation and Airborne Special Operations Museum.

In April 2018 Governor Roy Cooper awarded Porter the prestigious Order of the Long Leaf Pine for his exemplary service to the state and our community.  He was presented the President’s Lifetime Award for Community Service from President Joe Biden in December 2023 for his lifelong commitment to building a stronger nation through volunteer service.

In April 2021, Porter was appointed by Gov. Roy Cooper to serve as a citizen member of the state Judicial Standards Commission. He is also a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Cape Fear Chapter 100 Black Men of America, and Lewis Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.
