Commissioner Richard King

Richard King was appointed to the PWC Board in October 2023 and will serve as Treasurer during his first year.

King was born and raised in Fayetteville and has a deep-rooted connection to the city.  His parents started King Electric of Fayetteville in 1965.  He took over the business in 1990 and successfully ran it until it was sold in December 2021.

King was brought up working alongside his father and learning the trade from the ground up.  King Electric eventually evolved into the specialty niche of hanging utilities on bridges all over the United States.  In this field, he worked with a variety of utility companies where he was able to gain extensive knowledge and experience.  Additionally, King Electric did a lot of local business, often collaborating with PWC and Cumberland County Schools.

He is a graduate of Fayetteville Technical Community College with an Associate’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.  He obtained his licensure as a Master Electrician in 1990.  He is also a member of the Association of General Contractors of America.

King remains committed to the well-being of his hometown.  He brought entertainment to Fayetteville when he owned the Fayetteville Guard indoor football team from 2000-2009.  Currently, he is president of King Holdings of Fayetteville, which has built several commercial properties to help with the economic development of the city.  He also is part owner of Crown Security Services where the safety of the Fayetteville citizens remains a priority.

Although “semi-retired,” King looks forward to being an active member of the PWC Board to help bring change to his community.  He resides in Fayetteville with his wife, Lindsay, and has two children, Kirstie and Richie.
