  • Manage Heating Costs: Lower your thermostat by 10–15°F when asleep or away to save up to 10% annually. Use programmable thermostats for convenience.
  • Seal Air Leaks: Caulk gaps around doors, windows, and utility cut-throughs. Weatherstrip where needed.
  • HVAC Maintenance: Change air filters monthly; schedule professional service twice a year.
  • Smart Use of Sunlight: Open blinds during the day to let sunlight warm rooms.
  • Dress Warm Indoors: Every degree lower between 60–70°F saves about 5% on heating bills.
  • Safety Reminder: Never use stoves for heating—this is dangerous and costly.

  • Set Thermostat Wisely: Keep your thermostat at 78°F or higher when home; raise it when away.
  • Use Ceiling Fans: Fans help you feel cooler and allow you to set the thermostat higher.
  • Block the Sun: Close blinds or curtains during the hottest part of the day to keep rooms cooler.
  • Limit Heat-Producing Activities: Run ovens, dishwashers, and dryers in the early morning or evening.
  • Seal & Insulate: Keep cool air in by sealing leaks and ensuring good insulation.
  • Stay Hydrated & Safe: Drink plenty of water and check on neighbors during extreme heat.

Protect Our Pipes, Protect Our Homes

Why it matters: Sewer systems connect every home, apartment, and business in Fayetteville. What goes down one drain can impact an entire neighborhood. Grease clogs pipes, causes backups, and leads to costly repairs—sometimes right in your community.

Cease the Grease Tips

  • Never pour grease down the drain. Hot grease cools and hardens, blocking pipes.
  • Wipe before you wash. Scrape food scraps and wipe greasy pans with a paper towel before rinsing.
  • Use a Fat Trapper. These handy containers store cooled grease safely until disposal.

Why Community Watch Groups Care

  • Backups affect everyone. A single clog can overflow into streets, yards, and homes.
  • Health and safety risk. Sewer spills can contaminate water and create hazards for kids and pets.
  • Neighborhood pride. Keeping pipes clear protects property values and prevents costly city repairs.

Share this info at your next Community Watch meeting. Encourage neighbors to sign up for Cease the Grease and use Fat Trappers. Together, we keep Fayetteville flowing!
